Pool Cartridge Filters

What is the Best Cartridge Filter for an Inground Pool?

A cartridge filter removes particles and chemicals from your swimming pool water. Most cartridge filter models consist of a plastic cylindric tank, surrounded by pleated polyester filter media and a cap on each end.

As water flows into the tank and through the pleats, it captures pollutants as small as 10 microns. The filtered water then flows back into the pool.

What is Better: A Sand Filter or a Cartridge Filter?

Cartridge filters have several advantages over sand filters. These pool filters capture smaller particles, and they perform well at low speeds. Unlike a pool sand filter, you also don’t have to backwash the unit when cleaning, which means you save water.

Cartridge filters have higher maintenance requirements than sand filters, however. They also have shorter lifespans of only two or three years.

What Size Cartridge Filter Do I Need for my Pool?

The larger the pool filter, the better. A large filter has longer filter cycles, which more effectively capture fine particles. Their filter media also lasts longer.

As a rule of thumb, you need 100 square feet of filter surface area for every 40,000 litres of pool water.
